Woodfit Acoustic Panels Ireland

The development of their new headquarters in Oranmore, Galway was a major coup for the Irish Marine Institute, being the first facility of its kind in Ireland. With a design inspired by the sea, the development provides a beautiful contemporary workplace for over 170 employees.

Overlooking Galway Bay, the building was designed with a sensitivity to its natural surroundings, utilizing natural materials and textures. Various species of wood were used to achieve this natural effect, including American ash and oak, Iroko, cherry and beech.

Woodfit provided windows, doors and acoustic wall panelling across offices, corridors, canteens, and reception areas. The auditorium in particular achieved excellent acoustic performance and visual appeal.

The project won 2 national OPUS Architecture Awards including the “Wood Excellence Award”.
